Dan Meisler shares with us his interview with Sarah Susanka, author of a series of “Not So Big” books on houses, remodeling, and related subjects. She finishes the interview with a very interesting statement:
Do you see the end of suburban sprawl coming?
I do. I think it’s going to take a while because I don’t think we realize what the alternatives are. Some form of New Urbanism is likely to become the norm over the next few decades. When we can walk to a town center and get things we basically need … and the whole structure isn’t oriented around cars, but oriented around community … It’s not a native notion to make something people-sized. That’s what I keep trying to bring forward.
